Why did 911 occur?
Emphasizing the “humiliation and disgrace” Islam
has suffered at the hands of infidels and their compliant
Middle East rulers for nearly a century, bin Laden
has long complained that the United States “wants
to occupy our countries, steal our resources, impose
on us agents to rule us.” Outraged by the presence
of American troops desecrating Islam’s two holiest
places: Mecca and Medina, in the 1990s bin Laden demanded
that the United States leave the Persian Gulf, stop
all sanctions against the Iraqi people and stop using
Israel to oppress Palestinians - or else, “American
civilians will no more be spared than military
targets.”
How much advance
warning did the White House have?
In the weeks leading up to Sept. 11, dozens of urgent,
detailed warnings of attacks involving hijacked airliners
and US landmarks came from German, French, Russian
and Israeli intelligence, an Arab newspaper, several
prisoners and members of New York’s Muslim
communities.
Could US intelligence agencies have stopped 911?
In 1995, Filipino authorities alerted the FBI that
Middle Eastern pilots were training at American flight
schools to hijack a commercial jet and crash it into
federal buildings. In July 2001, a “Phoenix memo” sent
by FBI anti-terror Agent Kenneth Williams alerted his
Washington superiors 2001 that eight bin Laden followers
were training at an Arizona flight school. A fatwa
edict commanded them to "Bring down their [USA]
airliners.” In August, Moussaoui was arrested
at a Minnesota flight school while learning to fly
heavy aircraft. Despite known links to al Qaeda and
Boeing flight manuals in his car, Attorney General
John Ashcroft blocked further investigations of Moussaoui.
Another FBI informant lived with two of the hijackers.
And FBI translator Sibel Edmonds says the FBI had “several
specific information” on the coming Trade Tower
attacks as early as April 2001. The National Security
Agency says it routinely intercepted phone calls between
bin Laden and his operatives in the United State. “Hundreds” of
calls from ringleader Atta were also intercepted and
traced.
What happened to US air defenses on Sept. 11?
According to an official Pentagon news release, US
interceptors launched late from distant bases flew
at a fraction of their top speeds. Two jets airborne
near Manhattan could have intercepted both WTC-bound
airliners, but were not notified of the attacks. Two
armed “ready alert” jets routinely launched
to intercept stray airliners from Andrews Air Force
base just 10 miles from the Pentagon were held on the
ground until after the attacks. A nationwide air defense
drill on 911 also saw US air defenders looking over
the North Pole for nonexistent “Soviet” attackers.
Is the war in Iraq related to 911?
The secular Saddam Hussein was a bitter enemy of radical
Islamists, including al Qaeda. No evidence has ever
been found linking his regime to the Sept. 11 attacks.
Ironically, the US invasion and occupation of Iraq
has brought top al Qaeda personnel flooding into that
country, while driving thousands of outraged Arab youths
to join the terrorists’ ranks.
Will there be more terrorist attacks against the United
States?
Top terrorists heard US General Tommy Franks warn
the world that another murderous attack on US soil
in the
coming months could see the “suspension of the
Constitution” and the “imposition of a
military government” in Washington. Which means,
they win. But Osama bin Laden says he is directing “modern
educated youths” using al Qaeda computers to “hack” “cracks
inside the Western financial system” – and
crash the United States’ economy beyond repair.

EARLY WARNINGS
1/ On
June 8, 2001 German intelligence (BND) flagged the
CIA
and Israel that Middle Eastern terrorists are “planning
to hijack commercial aircraft to use as weapons to
attack important symbols of American and Israeli culture.”
2/ According
to the New York Daily News, shortly before Sept.
11 “numerous children” in the New
York City Muslim community made public statements about
what was to happen to the WTC.
3/ Britain,
three weeks before the Manhattan massacre, an Arab
newspaper published a bin Laden associate’s
warning of a massive terrorist attack in the US.
4/ Cayman
Islands, a caller to a radio talk show made several
warnings of an imminent attack by Osama bin
Laden against American Airlines.
5/ Germany,
an Iranian man about to be deported, phoned US police
several times from his cell to warn of the
planned attack on the World Trade Center. He was not
believed.
6/ Russia,
also in August, President Valdimir Putin ordered
Russian intelligence to warn the US government “in
the strongest possible terms” of imminent attacks
on airports and government buildings. The warnings
continued “for weeks” that 25 pilots had
been specifically trained for suicide missions.
7/ At
Brooklyn’s New Utrecht High School,
a Pakistani student pointed at the Twin Towers during
a heated political argument and declared, “Look
at those two buildings. They won’t be here next
week.”
8/ Several
days before the attack, a Jersey City student of
Middle Eastern origins warned classmates
not to
travel into lower Manhattan the morning of Sept. 11.
Concerned school officials referred his remarks and
written notes to the police. Only after the warnings
proved accurate did the FBI’s Joint Terrorist
Task Force take over the case. The federal sleuths
also began investigating warnings issued at a Bronx
mosque, where many members were warned to stay out
of lower Manhattan on Sept. 11.
9/ The
Washington Post reported that two Odigo workers in
Israel received a “hot mail” warning
from an unknown correspondent two hours before Manhattan’s
two tallest landmarks were hit. The Israeli telecom
company provides the message-passing system for “Instant
Message” services in the USA. Odigo has an office

OSAMA BIN LADEN AND ARAB RESENTMENT
Growing up in Saudi Arabia, a young
Osama bin Laden was profoundly and piously affected
by his family firm’s
involvement in rebuilding the holy mosques at Mecca
and Medina. After a lopsided Gulf “war” that
was really a slaughter of Persian people, American
troops remained encamped in Islam’s two holiest
places. Many Muslims, including bin Laden, were outraged
at this desecration by kafr “infidels”.
Washington claimed it was keeping King
Fahd from attack by a nation shattered by bombing
and sanctions. Instead
of protecting the “Protector of Mecca” from
a non-existent threat, it was clear to Middle Eastern
eyes that Uncle Sam was in Saudi to “safeguard” the
world’s biggest oilfields for American consumption.
This feeling was recently reinforced
by passage of the Kingdom’s new foreign investment
law. Opening Saudi Arabia to foreign privatization
- and allowing
foreign corporations to own land - was strongly opposed
by many sectors of the Saudi ruling class, including
Osama bin Laden, who predicted that American troops
on Saudi soil would not only ignore Islamic dress codes,
but would be used by foreign corporations and the royal
family to enforce the unpopular policy.
Another trigger for Osama’s outrage was Washington’s
use of Saudi Arabia as a base to attack Iraq in what
he called, “A blatant provocation to one billion
Muslims.” As an American expert expressed, the
seat of the caliphates for half a millennium, the ancient
city of Baghdad wrote “the most glorious chapters
in Islamic history.”
Observes Adil Najam, professor of international
relations at Boston University: Osama’s “rampage
is against the Saudi establishment, which he says is
not Islamic enough. But his own family is the Saudi
establishment.”
Contradiction? On the contrary, Najam
told the New Yorker’s Jane Mayer. “He is fighting to
save his family. He sees the corruption of his family
as one of the manifestations of the reach of the West.” A
few years ago, the London Independent’s Robert
Fisk dropped in on bin Laden’s rustic hideout.
Never mind the dirt floor, Fisk reported. “His
supporters - Algerians, Kuwaitis, Egyptians and Gulf
Arabs - would gather round him in his tent with the
awe of men listening to a messiah.”
“The United States must leave the Gulf,” Osama
bin Laden repeated every few minutes. “America
must stop all sanctions against the Iraqi people. America
must stop using Israel to oppress Palestinians.” Then
came the words that froze Fisk around that desert campfire: “American
civilians will no more be spared than military targets.”
I had no knowledge of these attacks, nor do I consider
the killing of innocent women, children and other humans
as an appreciable act. Islam strictly forbids causing
harm to innocent women, children and other people.
Such a practice is forbidden even in the course of
a battle.
All that is going on in Palestine for the last 11
months is sufficient to call the wrath of God upon
the United States and Israel. There is also a warning
for those Muslim countries, which witnessed all these
as a silent spectator. What had earlier been done to
the innocent people of Iraq, Chechnya and Bosnia? Only
one conclusion could be derived from the indifference
of the United States and the West to these acts of
terror and the patronage of the tyrants by these powers
that America is an anti Islamic power and it is patronizing
the anti-Islamic forces.
By enticing or intimidating these countries, the United
States is forcing them to play a role of its choice.
Put a glance all around and you will see that the slaves
of the United States are either rulers or enemies of
Muslims. We have pledged slavery to God Almighty alone
and after this pledge there is no possibility to become
the slave of someone else.
Drug smugglers from all over the world are in contact
with the US secret agencies. These agencies do not
want to eradicate narcotics cultivation and trafficking
because their importance will be diminished. The people
in the US Drug Enforcement Department are encouraging
drug trade so that they could show performance and
get millions of dollars worth of budget. General Noriega
was made a drug baron by the CIA and, in need, he was
made a scapegoat.
Al-Qaeda comprises of such modern educated youths
who are aware of the cracks inside the Western financial
system as they are aware of the lines in their hands.
These are the very flaws of the Western fiscal system,
which are becoming a noose for it and this system could
not recuperate in spite of the passage of so many days.
In his pretaped Oct. 7th video-postcard,
the fugitive financier emphasized the “humiliation and disgrace” Islam
has suffered at the hands of infidels and their compliant
Middle East rulers for nearly a century. The US, bin
Laden complained, “wants to occupy our countries,
steal our resources, impose on us agents to rule us.”
Bin Laden was playing to the sentiments
of Muslims still choked over more than 19,000 Arab
civilians massacred
when US-backed Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982. Touring
Lebanon afterwards, Ha’aretz reporter Tom Segev
saw “refugees wandering amidst swarms of flies,
dressed in rags, their faces expressing terror and
their eyes bewilderment
...the women wailing and the children
sobbing”.
People walked “as in a nightmare,” and “a
terrible smell filled the air” from decomposing
bodies.
The continuing bloody occupation of
Palestine also agitates Arabs, who view “Israeli Apartheid” as
ongoing US-sponsored “terrorism”.
FBI INVESTIGATIONS OF SUSPICIOUS FLIGHT STUDENTS BLOCKED
The Phoenix memo, by FBI Agent Kenneth Williams, alerted
FBI executives in Washington in July that bin Laden
followers were training at an Arizona flight school.
He said eight suspected terrorists were training.
Agent Coleen Rowley, the chief lawyer
in the Minneapolis field office, alleges that intelligence
on Moussaoui
provided by the French Government, which included information
on his "activities connected with Osama bin Laden",
was more than enough to obtain a warrant to search
his laptop computer in the weeks before the terrorist
attacks.
But requests for a warrant were thwarted
by FBI supervisors in Washington, who seemed so intent
on ignoring the
threat Moussaoui posed that some field agents speculated
that key officials at FBI headquarters "had to
be spies or moles ... working for Osama bin Laden".
In filing a lawsuit against her employers,
the FBI, Agent Rowley said, "After the first attacks on
the World Trade Center had already occurred," the
Minneapolis office telephoned Washington and "the
FBI Supervisory Special Agent [SSA] who was the one
most involved in the Moussaoui matter and who, up to
that point, seemed to have been consistently, almost
deliberately thwarting the Minneapolis FBI agents'
efforts."
Well before Sept. 11, "reasonable suspicions
quickly ripened into probable cause within days of
Moussaoui's arrest when the French Intelligence Service
confirmed his affiliations with radical fundamentalist
Islamic groups and activities connected to Osama Bin
Laden. …"says Rowley, she and her field
office were thwarted at every turn
An FBI officer who was part of the
agency’s
New York-based Al-Qaeda anti-terrorist squad described
last Friday how he was blocked from aggressively pursuing
one of the future hijackers only two weeks before the
September 11 attacks.
In written testimony before a special
joint intelligence committee, the unnamed officer
explained how he had
warned his superiors in writing that “some day,
somebody will die”, after being refused permission
to locate Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi, both
of whom were part of the hijack team that took over
flight AA77 and crashed it into the Pentagon.
The two terrorists had entered America weeks before,
despite being spotted in Malaysia at a meeting with
other terrorists who had been implicated in the bombing
of the USS Cole in Aden harbour in October 2000. At
a key meeting in New York on June 11, 2001, the CIA
did not pass on to the FBI information about the Malaysian
meeting and its participants. A Phoenix FBI agent's
request for a canvass of U.S. flight schools for al
Qaeda terrorists was formally rejected within several
weeks of his July 10 memoone of the aviation students
was a radical Muslim who had a picture of bin Laden
on his wall, while another had made a phone call to
a man linked to an al Qaeda associate.
Weeks before Sept. 11, an FBI agent connected several
students at Arizona aviation schools to a militant
Muslim group whose founder talked of attacking airports
and received a letter from Osama Bin Laden encouraging
the downing of commercial airliners.
Agent Ken Williams' July 2001 memo
raised concerns about the students' affiliation with
Sheik Omar Bakri
Mohammed's group because the sheik had been involved
with a fatwa – an Islamic call to action – that
suggested airports as one of several legitimate attack
targets in the United States.
In addition, Williams had identified another Muslim
figure in Arizona who wasn't training at aviation schools
but was linked through phone communications to one
of bin Laden's top lieutenants, Abu ZubaydahAbu Zubaydah
is believed to be bin Laden's operational chief, who
ran al-Qaida's terrorist training camps and is suspected
of helping organize the Sept. 11 hijackings
"Bring down their airliners. Prevent the safe
passage of their ships. Occupy their embassies. Force
the closure of their companies and banks," the
bin Laden letter to Bakri read.
Bakri also is quoted as calling himself "the
mouth, eyes and ears" of bin Laden and his group
recruits young Muslims to participate in a jihad across
the globe.
Williams is a 10-year FBI veteran and counterterrorism
expert.
FBI translator, Sibel Edmonds, who
was hired shortly after Sept. 11 to translate intelligence
gathered over
the previous year related to the 9/11 attacks. She
says the FBI had information that an attack using airplanes
was being planned before Sept. 11 and calls Condoleezza
Rice's claim the White House had no specific information
on a domestic threat or one involving planes "an
outrageous lie."
SIBEL EDMONDS: “Well, I would
say not only that we had specific information, we
had several specific
information as early as April, 2001. Look at what Agent
Rowley provided, you look at the Phoenix Memo, the
investigations that I worked on after 9-11, retranslating
certain documents related to certain investigations,
that is the reason I'm saying this is absolutely inaccurate.
We had not one, but we had many specific informations,”
Filipino authorities alerted the FBI as early as 1995
that several Middle Eastern pilots were training at
American flight schools and at least one had proposed
hijacking a commercial jet and crashing it into federal
buildings.
A month after the 2001 memo from Arizona to FBI headquarters,
FBI agents in Minnesota arrested a French citizen of
Moroccan descent, Zacarias Moussaoui, after a flight
school instructor became suspicious of his desire to
learn to fly a commercial jet.
About the same time as the Phoenix memo and Moussaoui's
arrest, U.S. intelligence issued a late summer warning
that there was heightened risk of a terrorist attack
on Americans, possibly even on U.S. soil.
The White House acknowledged it was told [in Aug.
2001] that al-Qaeda might try to hijack American airplanes.
The New York Times confirmed that the
FBI “held
back its own agents last August from opening a criminal
investigation of a man who investigators now suspect
was meant to be the 20th hijacker in the Sept. 11 attacks.”
Zacarias Moussaoui, a 33 year-old French
citizen of Moroccan descent, was arrested on August
17 on immigration
charges after an alert instructor at the Pan Am Flying
Academy in Eagan, Minnesota called the bureau’s
Minneapolis office to report that a new Middle Eastern
student was acting suspiciously. When Moussaoui was
picked up in Boston, the feds found “several
passports, technical information on Boeing aircraft
and flight manuals” in his possession.
The bust was flagged by French intelligence
agents, who sent a dossier to the FBI linking the
Islamic militant
to Osama bin Laden. When a crack FBI counter-terrorism
team learned of Moussaoui’s radical Islamic ties,
they applied for a national security warrant to search
his computer. Their request was refused.
A story by Richard Sale explained Echelon’s
effectiveness against Osama bin Laden. A US District
Court case in Manhattan “is based mainly on National
Security Agency intercepts of phone calls between bin
Laden and his operatives around the world – Afghanistan
to London, from Kenya to the United States.”
Sale said that much of the evidence
against bin Laden had been obtained in Echelon intercepts
following the
1998 bombings of US embassies in East Africa. Vanity
Fair’s Henry Porter reveals that “hundreds” of
Atta’s cell phone calls were intercepted and
traced.
The Baltimore Sun cites documents obtained
under pre-Sept. 11 Freedom of Information laws by
National Security
Agency expert James Bamford, revealing that “Agency
officials have sometimes played tapes of bin Laden
talking to his mother to impress members of Congress
and select visitors to the agency.”
